Northern Webster County Back to School Splash

Monday evening, July 24 found most of the students and parents from Diana and Hacker Valley at Holly River State Park, the site for the Northern Webster County Back to School Splash. We had a super wonderful evening of swimming, basketball, refreshments, fire truck rides, and school supplies. The Webster County Health Department also had a representative there giving away bags prepared by them. Darkness had fallen by the time the last person left.

Our site increased our participation by approximately 50 students this year. We served about 80% of our student population! One of the nicest things about the Back to School Splash is that it has nothing to do with income guidelines. Everyone is welcome!!!

The volunteer staff of the Northern Webster County Back to School Splash would like to extend a tremendous THANK YOU to our volunteers and sponsors! Our volunteers are too numerous to mention and even if we tried we’d certainly omit someone as virtually everyone in our two communities helped in some way.

Our sponsors included:

We also had a wonderful group of ladies that got together and made drawstring bags using donated fabric to hold the students’ supplies. These bags can also be used throughout the year by the students for various other needs. Thank you very much ladies, we have had numerous comments about how nice these bags are.

We especially want to thank the parents, guardians, grandparents, aunt, uncles, neighbors, and friends for bringing their students! Without your participation, there would be no Back to School Splash.

We are already gearing up for the 2007 Splash. If you wish to be a sponsor for the 2007 Northern Webster County Back to School Splash, you may send a contribution to: Put Children First, Inc., P.O. Box 122, Hacker Valley, WV 26222 (please note Back to School Splash supplies on the check or money order). All funds received for the Splash will be used to purchase school supplies for our students. You may even remain anonymous, if you wish. For more information on the Back to School Splash for Northern Webster County site, you may contact Cindy Miller, 493-6369.
